The “American dream” of freedom and self-determination is here, with so many limitless possibilities to choose from.

New York is one of the most well-liked travel locations in the globe for practically everyone because of its magnificent buildings, esteemed universities, and diverse population.

Should you attend college here at all? Going to school in New York City can be a fantastic choice if you want to be close to Wall Street, Broadway, Madison Square Garden, and Gray’s Papaya.

We’ll describe what it’s like to attend college in New York in this article, but before that, you should consider the pros and cons of dorm life.

Boredom? Doesn’t Exist

Many colleges are located in outlying areas. There aren’t many possibilities for off-campus enjoyment if you ever become bored with on-campus activities. You’ll find yourself in one of the most dynamic and interesting cities in the world if you attend college in New York City.

You’ll have quick access to pubs, clubs, restaurants, plays, museums, and athletic events. You can visit the Guggenheim or Metropolitan Museum of Art. You can watch a Knicks or Nets game if you enjoy basketball. You might want to see the newest Broadway production. You’ll undoubtedly be eager to visit Bobby Flay and Marcus Samuelsson’s restaurants if you love some of The Food Network’s programming.

The Diversity

You’ll most likely be surrounded by regular students who are college-aged and from the state where the college is located if you attend a large state school in a college town.

You will get to interact with a ton of individuals from all over the globe in NYC. It is often touted that You may experience the foods and customs of several countries by exploring the numerous diverse ethnic districts of New York City. Graduating from college with a global perspective and awareness of many cultures might help you in your professional life, especially in today’s global economy.

Less Sense of Community

In college towns, the college is the center of attention. People proudly display their school colors, support their sports teams with enthusiasm, and appear to have a close connection to the institution. But here in New York, the colleges are a very small portion of the city. Because they are out and about discovering the city and all it has to offer, students are more likely to spend less time on campus. Schooling in such an urban setting may result in less of a community feeling.

Additionally, none of the institutions in NYC have top football programs, and participation in athletics isn’t a significant aspect of college life. You won’t find it at a college in New York City if you want to cheer on your team in front of 100,000 screaming supporters. St. John’s does, however, have an illustrious basketball program, and they host some of their games in the legendary Madison Square Garden.

There’s A Cushion For All The Madness

Your preferred location to study, read, or take a stroll will be one of the 180 city parks spread out around the city. Green areas like Bryant Park and Central Park can help you to manage the chaos and bustle in a place where there is so much going on all the time. When you need a break, take a stroll through the city’s parks to enjoy the tranquility and natural beauty while getting some fresh air and fresh ideas.

Living Here is Expensive

Even while you can get inexpensive food, low-priced event tickets, and inexpensive subway rides, practically every other thing you may have to do off campus will cost you money. You might not be able to fully enjoy all that the state has to offer if you are running on a tight budget.

Furthermore, it might be isolating and have a detrimental effect on your college experience if you have little money while your buddies frequent expensive NYC restaurants and purchase tickets to Broadway performances.
