Career and Technical Education (CTE)
Middle and high school students enroll in career and technical education (CTE) classes to explore their interests and gain skills applicable to nearly every profession. CTE differs from traditional or university education because its focus is more practical and hands-on learning.
Students pursuing careers in agriculture, food and natural resources (AFNR) typically study how human lives are sustained through consumable resources around the globe. Although students might dream of becoming farmers themselves, their skills gained can also open doors to roles like lab technicians, horticulturists, administrators or researchers.
Students interested in exploring career pathways of government and public administration learn the ways that governments operate, their agencies, and how citizens interact with them. Graduates could become local government representatives, supreme court justices or manufacturing workers. Manufacturing remains popular as demand increases for skills such as welding.
Student Recruitment
FBISD offers several programs of choice at the high school level, including an Early College High School that blends high school and college coursework to allow students to earn up to two years tuition-free college credit. Additionally, James Reese Career and Technical Center offers Advanced CTE programming which enables students to obtain industry certifications.
Students also have access to an impressive array of fine arts courses, such as piano technician certification – an innovation never seen in Texas high schools! And in athletics, student athletes learn responsibility, values and sportsmanship skills that allow them to pursue futures beyond their wildest imagination.

Extended Day
Students enrolled in grades PreK4 to 5 can take advantage of our before and after school Extended Day program for child care on campus, where children are escorted directly to their classrooms by EDP staff members before engaging in educationally enriching activities throughout their day. Intersession days that have sufficient interest may also take part.
FBISD Extended Learning Centers remain accessible to children of district employees, first responders and active military personnel. Students needing entry must first check in with either their Upper School teacher or security before entering.
Parents can request changes to their child’s Extended Day enrollment via Amilia by Friday, September 13th in order to be charged monthly for services.
Whole Child Health Initiative
A comprehensive education should encompass more than academics; it should address physical, social and emotional health of each student to give them the best chance at fulfilling future ambitions beyond what they can imagine. When their health needs are taken care of they will feel confident to pursue futures they never imagined possible.
The district hosts monthly seminars for families to educate them about mental and physical health resources available for their children, such as mental health resources, violence prevention measures, the significance of having a positive social media footprint, how to build study habits to reduce test anxiety as well as current drug trends, optimal study strategies and much more.
This program is built upon the framework of proactive school nursing practice, which encompasses access to healthcare, health education, promotion and wellness initiatives, community partnerships, risk reduction strategies and surveillance. Furthermore, the program features a family support specialist who works directly with parents to identify and coordinate family health needs while offering behavioral and psychological support services to families.
