The iPhone 12 has been out for a while but the pricing has not changed much. In this generation, there was no mid-cycle refresh thus we did not receive the usual S models. Instead, Apple released more color versions for the existing generation thus there was no reason to offer discounts on the iPhone 12 price.
Choice and Price
For the first few generations of the iPhone, there was just one version. Everyone paid the same price for the same phone. This time around, for the 12th generation of iPhones, things are a bit different. Apple chose to release several different versions for the iPhone to please as many users as possible. Truth be told, not everyone wants to carry a phablet in their pocket while others may consider the display on a standard phone a bit too small.
To address the needs of iPhone users, Apple released 4 different versions for the iPhone 12. The iPhone 12 price is determined by what version you want to get. There is the iPhone 12 Mini, iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro, and the iPhone 12 Pro Max.
Each version of the iPhone is available with several internal storage options which means that there are more than 4 iPhone 12 price options.
For the iPhone 12 Mini, the cheapest version, the one with 64 GB of storage, you can expect to pay around S$1,149 while the one with 256 GB is S$1,389.
The iPhone 12 price starts at S$1,299 for the 64 GB version. You pay extra when compared to the Mini for the larger screen but the hardware inside is almost identical. If you decide to go for the 256 GB version, you will have to pay S$1,539.
The iPhone 12 Pro starts at S$1,649 and has 128 GB of internal storage. There is a 256 GB version and a 512 GB one. You will have to pay S$2,149 for the latter.
Lastly, there is the iPhone 12 Pro Max which again has the same internal specs but a larger display and different cameras when compared with the standard version of the phone. The 128 GB model is priced at S$1,799, making it a better deal than the 256 GB version of the iPhone 12 Pro. For the 512 GB version of the iPhone 12 Pro Max, you will have to pay S$2,299.
Retail or On a Plan?
While the retail iPhone 12 price may seem prohibitive for some, there are options to get it cheaper. What most Apple customers end up doing is to get their iPhone with a 24-month mobile subscription contract. Depending on the version and the subscription plan, you can even get the phone for free with certain carriers.
One thing that should be avoided is to get the iPhone 12 contract-free from a carrier. Their prices are steeper than what you would have to pay for it if you were to buy it directly from Apple. If you want it without a contract, you are better off getting it from the official website. Otherwise, carriers can be a good option if you do not want to pay the full iPhone 12 price upfront.
